MULTI-MEDIA CONCERT WILL HELP LOCAL FAMILY BATTLING CANCER.

Help us to Help Others is the theme of a unique event being held at the Corner Brook Arts and Culture Center on May 14. Imagine a multi-media concert featuring local musicians playing mix of jazz, Celtic and Irish music. Scenes of nature play out on a large screen as the musicians strum their instruments. Simultaneously, there is a feeling of inner peace; the knowledge that you are helping a local family battling cancer.
“My hope is that we can give this family a summer free of worries,” says Johanne McInnis, the local musician organizing the concert with Ivan Emke (mandolin, bldhran and harmonica), Heather Tuack (cello), Wayne Muggridge (fiddle) and Renaud Labelle (floor bass). “We are all so bless,” adds McInnis, who will lent her vocals as well as play Celtic flute and harp during the event. “So many people are being hit by cancer I feel I have to do something. In my music career, I have reached a point where I do not want just to do concerts. It’s more rewarding when your concerts serve a greater purpose.” This event invites all area residents to become involved. Proceeds from the concert will go to David Hann, a casual call-in officer with the Sir Wilfred Grenfell College, Campus Enforcement and patrol Department, and his wife Terri, who is undergoing treatment for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in St.John’s. Organizers hope to raise 10 000$.
“Together we can make a difference” says McInnis, a native of Quebec. “I have never seen people come together to help one another like they do here. Whether it’s a church group, a government institution, schools or community organizations everyone works together proving that when it comes to helping someone we can move mountains.” Help us to Help Others gets under way at 8 p.m. People are encourages to reserve tickets as soon as possible, which will give organizers time to plan a second event. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Arts and Culture Center box office at 637-2580
